Laura Secord Bicentennial Event: Walk into history with us on June 22, 2013!
Synopsis: The Friends of Laura Secord is organizing a series of major events to honour Canada's most famous heroine, Laura Secord on the 200th Anniversary of her courageous 32 kilometre walk from Queenston to Thorold on June 22, 1813 to warn the British forces of an impending American attack. The historical component of the event will be a Laura Secord Commemorative Walk, re-enacting Laura’s epic journey. Participants of the walk will also learn more about the Battle of Beaver Dams and the aboriginal allies crucial to its success
Biography: Caroline, who spends her time between Toronto and Niagara-on the-Lake, is the President and Founder of The Friends of Laura Secord, a non-profit community group established to preserve, strengthen and perpetuate the legacy of Canadian heroine Laura Secord. The group fosters collaborative relationships amongst community members, institutions, organizations, service clubs, municipalities, and the public and private sector. Its 250 members, including authors, historians, organizational strategists, academics, business professional, broadcast journalists, local regional trail experts, and descendants, exchange expertise and information, conduct original research, and promote public awareness and appreciation of the legacy of Laura Secord and her contemporaries.
